Dickten Masch to acquire Mexican production facility

Nashotah-based Dickten Masch Plastics LLC announced that it has acquired a United Plastics Group Inc. plastic manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico. The financial terms of the transaction were not released.
Dickten Masch, a custom thermoplastics and thermoset molder, will not be eliminating or moving any employees in the transaction, said president and chief executive officer Steve Dyer.
There are 112 employees in Monterrey, bringing total Dickten Masch employment to 512.
“We’re not changing anything,” Dyer said. “They all came to work (Monday) and it’s business as usual.”
Some Dickten Masch production may move to Monterrey, depending on customer demand. If that happens, it will free up capacity at the company’s Nashotah and Ankeny, Iowa facilities for additional growth, Dyer said.
“We have key customers, some even here in Wisconsin, that have facilities in Mexico, and they needed us closer regionally to support their needs,” he said.
The acquisition is part of a growth pattern over the last three years, Dyer said. The company will continue to consider expansion into areas where its customers are located.
Ten of Dickten Masch’s 150 clients have facilities in Mexico, he said.
“We acquired the facility because from a cultural and systemic standpoint, they very closely mirror our beliefs and our systems,” Dyer said. “Our goal is to be a global manufacturer (with) regional support of our key customers’ operations.”
United Plastics Group is a plastic injection molding manufacturer based in Oak Brook, Ill.
“UPG will continue to invest in our manufacturing capabilities around the world that are closely aligned with our strategic objectives,” said UPG CEO Todd Dunn. “As we look to grow our business over the next five years, we will look to customers that support not only our growing medical business, but value the entire suite of services that UPG provides.”
